I know everyone talks about when Adam says, “Please,” but her reaction shot in the second gif is what twists the knife for me.

Yeah, I don’t think people talk enough about Rey’s REACTION to the “Please”.

That reaction meant everything to me in the context of the scene. She could have gone stone cold there or even adopted the more ambiguous look from when she’s about to reach for the saber. But this. This is pure heartache.

I honestly don’t know how you can watch this and not get it.

That sharp little inhale and then her face… It’s almost like she’s thinking “Damn, why’d he have to say ‘PLEASE’??”😩 (And I feel her, the “Please” kinda breaks my heart, too) A big part of her really wanted to, but just…ugh, the ANGST!

And I love Rian Johnson’s commentary on the blu-ray here:

“And his ‘please’ here. It’s very important.”

#because villains don’t say please

^^ Yes! I almost mentioned that commentary quote, too. Having Ben say, practically beg, with “Please” was obviously very damn deliberate and purposeful, for ~reasons~.
